A Parent’s Guide to First Grade Homework 2015-2016 Reading Reading is the most important homework for your child to complete each night. Please make sure your child reads at least 20 minutes each night.
Each night, please record the number of minutes read on the homework calendar. After each book your child reads, ask them to tell you the events of the story in order (beginning, middle, end). Students will begin to receive written comprehension homework 2nd quarter.
Your child’s reading level will be sent home soon-it is encouraged that your child is reading books on their level. This will help them become great readers! After their level is determined, I will send home at least one leveled book a week for them to practice.
Your child will also receive two reading practice boxes each week. Please complete the pages on Monday and Wednesday. The practice pages will review a number of skills taught throughout the school year.
Math Your child will have two math practice boxes each week. Please complete the pages on Tuesday and Thursday. The practice pages will review a number of skills taught throughout the school year. The math practice pages can be found on the back of the reading practice pages.
Extra Practice It is important for children to have time to be children. Homework should not take more than 30 minutes each night. Students work hard all day and we encourage them to get outside and play or engage in activities they love.
Please see the helpful websites tab for websites your child can use as additional practice!
